German Cinema Festival Comes Back to Indonesia’s Screens



 LIPUTANSATU.COM - Already in its fourth edition this year, the German Cinema film festival     
 returns to Indonesian cinema screens from September 11 to 20, 2015.

Presenting the best of Germanys current film scene, this years selection features 17
internationally acclaimed and award-winning German film productions.

The festival will open on September 11 with Labyrinth of Lies” by director Giulio Ricciarelli, which premiered last September at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film is set in Germany in 1958 and tells the story of a young prosecutor who unravels a massive conspiracy to cover up the dark Nazi past of prominent public figures in the country.

Other highlights of the festival include the stunning documentary The Salt of the Earth by Wim Wenders and Juliano Ribeiro Salgado, the German box office hit Fack Juhte (“Suck me Shakespeer“); a comedy about a criminal who is forced to become a teacher; and As We Were Dreaming”, the latest film by Andreas Dresen, the German film director who is well-known for
his realistic style.

With a colorful cross-section of the German film landscape, the festival, which attracted more than 12 000 visitors, seeks to continously inspire Indonesian audiences and raise interest in German Cinema.

The festival shows that the contemporary German movie scene is continuously changing and has to offer a lot of exciting and fresh views, as the topics of the films range from family issues and love to religion and history.

All films are accessible to a wide audience through English subtitles. Screenings will be held across Indonesia, namely Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Makassar, Surabaya, Denpasar and Medan.
This year, German Cinema is part of the German Season, a three-month festival that celebrates the friendship between Indonesia and Germany through a series of events. The German Season is an initiative of the Federal Foreign Office in Germany and is organized by the Goethe-Institut Indonesien, the German Embassy Jakarta and EKONID.
